More Entergy trucks have been seen in the area and as of 11:30 there were 62 residents still without power. Hopefully soon all residents will have restored power.
Limb/vegetation removal. As there has been damage across a widespread area outside of Iowa the removal process could be delayed. Please place limbs and vegetation to the roadside. Please do not encroach on the road. We are expecting more rain in the next couple of days and our maintenance crews have been clearing ditches of debris. They are not removing debris just cleaning them out so water can flow. Both last evening and today we removed many trashcans and trash out of ditches. I am asking all able-bodied residents to please help remove trashcans and trash from ditches so that the water flow from ditches are not restricted.
I have seen many people helping others over the last 18 hours, it is encouraging to see. Remember to keep an eye out for your neighbors and the elderly.
Best Regards,
Mayor Watkins

Be advised of an update this morning from Entergy: Approximately 5% of the town of Iowa is still without electricity. Schedules indicate that should be fully restored by tonight. If there are more updates from Entergy they will be passed on.

The town is underway preparing for the upcoming hurricane season. As some of you know the last little storm we had a few weeks ago took down some trees and limbs along with the power. Two of the four standby generators that we made repairs on last season for preparation failed to run properly. This has been addressed and should not be an issue moving forward. Recently we have had some of our Public Works employees attend workshops regarding chainsaw safety during storms.
Town Protocol in the Event of Potential landfall in our area:
- Non-Essential emergency vehicles and personnel will leave the area and will stage out of harm's way. Returning as soon as roads are passable.
- Police Chief, including necessary policemen will remain in town during the event.
- 2 employees (Public Works) and I will remain in town during the event.
- Bottled water will be stockpiled in multiple locations.
- Location of nearest Shelter will be announced.
HURRICANE SAFTEY PLAN
I encourage all residents to begin personal preparations, and planning.
Best Regards,
Mayor Watkins
